ERA Resilience Framework: frequently asked questions
What ERA is, how the course works, and what it isn't.
What is emotional resilience?
Emotional resilience is the ability to keep functioning, deciding and moving when life is hard — not avoiding difficulty or staying relentlessly positive. In ERA it is treated as something with structure rather than a personality trait you either have or don't: a relationship with yourself, the ability to act, the ability to find options, and the maintenance that keeps all three going.
What is the ERA framework?
ERA stands for Emotional Resilience Architecture. It is a structured resilience framework created by coach Kate Stapleton and taught as a self-paced online course: four pillars, sixteen lessons, each a short video plus workbook exercises. It is educational structured self-reflection, with a private digital workbook that saves everything you write so you can revisit and edit it.
What are the four pillars of ERA?
Flame is your relationship with yourself — identity, purpose and what keeps you going. Agency is keeping moving in adversity, asking 'what now?' rather than 'why me?'. Cognitive Creativity is reframing events and turning limitations into options. Adaptive Resilience is maintenance: predict, prepare and proact, treating setbacks as data rather than failure. You work through them in order.
How long does the ERA course take?
There is no fixed timescale. The course has sixteen lessons, four per pillar, and each takes roughly thirty to forty minutes including the video and writing time. Pillars unlock in order, but there are no deadlines and no streaks — you go at whatever pace suits you, and you can stop and come back whenever you like.
Is ERA therapy?
No. ERA is an educational course offering structured self-reflection and coaching, not therapy, treatment or diagnosis, and it uses no diagnostic language. If you are navigating trauma, grief that feels unmanageable, or you are in crisis, please speak to a qualified professional. Our support page lists UK crisis help including Samaritans on 116 123 and NHS 111.
Who is ERA for?
ERA is for anyone navigating adversity, change or rebuilding who wants structure rather than slogans. It is written in plain, direct language and designed to be easy to work with in small steps, with visible progress and minimal choices at each stage. It is secular and deliberately non-prescriptive about what should give your life meaning.
What is the BREAK tool?
BREAK is a five-step flow for handling an intrusive belief: Belief, Reality, Evaluate, Action, Know. You name the thought, test it against what is actually true, weigh it, choose one concrete action, and record what you now know. It is built into the course and also available on its own at any time, with a history of your past entries.
Can I work with Kate one-to-one?
Yes. Kate Stapleton offers ERA one-to-one coaching sessions alongside the course. Email info@stapletoncoaching.com or visit www.stapletoncoaching.com to ask about availability and how sessions work. [KATE TO REVIEW] — add pricing, session length and how people book if you'd like that answered here directly.
Is my workbook private?
Yes. Everything you write in the ERA workbook — exercises, BREAK entries, check-ins and toolkit plans — is private to your account and never shared. ERA is not a social platform, community or chat. Your entries stay editable, so you can return to any exercise later and see or change what you wrote before.
What does the course cost?
Nothing — ERA is free to access. Sign up and you can work through all four pillars and sixteen lessons, with the private workbook, the BREAK tool and the check-ins included at no charge. Kate's one-to-one coaching sessions are separate and arranged directly; email info@stapletoncoaching.com or visit www.stapletoncoaching.com for details.
